They Felt Movement!

Yesterday afternoon while on the couch with Aidan in my lap, I could feel the baby move under my hand, so I got Aidan to put his hand under mine until we felt a "poke"(the term we're using around here so that a certain someone doesn't get the idea into his head that it's ok to kick mommy in the tummy). Aidan's eyes went wide and he said "baby?!" and when I told him yes, that was the baby, he starting clapping. Then Caleigh ran over to feel the baby too, and he/she obliged with another poke. Poor Kevin hasn't gotten to feel the baby move yet.

Here Goes!

I just finished knitting and measuring the gauge swatch this morning. Now I've done all the calculations and double checked them, all that's left is to get my needles out and cast on! Wish me luck, I've never knit a garment other than a scarf, hat or baby booties before, this should be interesting to say the least.

Taking the Plunge

I've decided that I'm going to finally venture into knitting actual garments other than hats or scarves. I'm working on the gauge swatch for a pair of knitted shorts for the new baby. After that, it's just figuring out the math on the pattern I've chosen and going with it. Wish me luck!

I'm going to use the green yarn pictured in my post about my yarn buying expedition the other day.

Today's Appointment

This morning's OB appointment went well, baby's heartbeat was between 134 and 140, so pretty good. My doctor was not impressed that the previous 2 ultrasounds were incomplete. I thought that only the first one was, but apparently both of them couldn't clearly see a 3-vessel cord, or the skin along the spine properly. He was also not too thrilled with their openly hostile attitude towards the presence of the kids. His nurses had already scheduled me another u/s at the same place, but I said I would like to go to another one instead, and did my own scheduling when I got home. He's confident that everything is fine, though, b/c I'd just finished telling him about the party in my tummy last night that kept me from sleeping.

My doctor also said that I've got pubic bone separation already, and a nasty varicose vein that he wants me to get a compression sock for(which I apparently need an appointment for early in the morning-before 9am-so I need to call and book one). Won't that look lovely come spring and summer?

I was bad today

I decided to head down to Wool-Tyme this morning after dropping Caleigh off at school to see if they had any decent, gender neutral 100% wools that were soft but not too expensive (and to pick up an extra set of size 7 circular needles) and picked up some Briggs and Little Softspun in both a green they call Honeydew and a blue called Wedgewood. I also got some of Patons Classic Wool Merino in a colour they've discontinued(I think) and some Alpaca sock and worsted yarns(I think I'll be using the worsted for a Pompom Bear hat for the new baby since it's so soft and beautiful fall colours). Besides, the regular priced yarns are all on sale until the end of the month ;)

Decisions, decisions

I'm at a loss as to what to knit next. I thought I would try some wool shorties for the new baby, but realized that I'll most likely end up needing my size 7 circular needles for them, which wouldn't ordinarily be a problem, except that I will need those in a couple of short weeks for my Fair Isle knitting course, and I have no idea how long a pair of wool shorts may take me. So now I'm back to square 1 on my decision making.

I might just have to make some of the many pairs of socks I've been contemplating(and have the yarn stash for)instead. At least they're portable projects that I can take to my doctor's appointments and actually have a chance at getting some of it done while waiting.

Latest Ultrasound

Ended up having another u/s this past week b/c the technician at the previous u/s wasn't happy without getting a clear view of the skin along the spine or not getting a clear view of baby's face. Funny enough, baby was in just about the same position this time as 2 weeks ago. We got a couple of pictures, but they aren't so great, and I was not too happy with the tech and her attitude towards the kids being present. I understand that it's up to the tech as to who's able to come into the u/s room, but her outright ambivalent attitude towards them the second she saw them was a little off-putting to me to say the least. Kevin had to miss the majority of the u/s b/c the tech didn't like the fact that Aidan had a bit of a tantrum for all of 2 seconds when his sister tried to have a turn with a toy he'd brought in with him.
