It's All About the Teeth

Or at least it will be for the next few weeks. Today I had to take Patches to the vet to have him sedated while his teeth were cleaned, examined, and some were removed(turned out to be 3 rather than just the one initial one the vet saw at his check-up a couple of weeks ago).

On the 9th of June, and then the 16th, Caleigh has to go back to the orthodontist to first get impressions and x-rays done, then the fitting of the appliance to spread her palate so that her teeth will meet properly again. Hoping that it doesn't hurt her too much and/or make her speech such that her classmates make fun of her(I remember mine did when I got my braces and then retainers).

Woohoo!!!

Had my 34 week appointment this morning(solo b/c silly, swiss cheese brain me wrote 9:45 on the calender in the kitchen when it was really 9:15, so Kev had to take Caleigh to school while I went alone-too last minute to ask gma). All is well, baby is still head down(yahoo!!), heart rate is 169 and I've got an rx for chiro and a requisition for another growth u/s at 38wks just to check up on things. The only question I forgot to ask was about what the hospital policy is regarding the use of infant seats other than the bucket seat that most people use. We kinda can't take the Britax out of the car to bring baby out to the car when we leave to come home.

Thanks, thanks a lot

Why do people think that pregnant women are fair game for any comment they feel like making? Why do they feel the need to comment on her size, how high/low she's carrying, or any other thing related to how she looks? Don't people realize that the last thing a pregnant woman needs is someone saying "boy, you got a lot bigger with this one than the last one, or is it just that I haven't seen you in a while?" Thanks for making me feel even more like a huge, beached whale than I already do.

Daddy's Away

We're surviving the week(so far), but are really looking forward to Saturday morning when he'll be home. Aidan has just exploded in terms of vocabulary this week, even being able to say Sioux Falls and Chicago(sorta).

Growth U/S at 32wks

Had the 32-34wk growth u/s this morning and it showed a baby with a heart rate of 151, measuring around 34wks(so 2wks ahead of dates, not a surprise), between 5 and 6lbs(somewhere around the 95-97th percentile), and.....head down, woohoo!!!! Now to figure out a way to keep baby that way until delivery(said while scratching my chin to think of things to do to ensure that).

Methinks

I need to get me a jumbo flyer and some jumbo bobbins to go along with it. I kinda sorta ran out of room on my standard bobbin this afternoon while plying my BFL singles(okay, okay, so the singles are kinda thick, but they're getting better). I had to actually wind the yarn on to the bobbin manually at the very end, and it almost spilled off the bobbin. There's almost no room between the flyer arm and the yarn on the bobbin.

Not Again

Just got back from the 32wk OB appointment. My weight is up another 3lbs :( and the baby's heartbeat was 154(which is up from the 104-143 that it usually is) and the little stinker has turned breech on me again. Not sure whether there's a whole lot of room left in there for turning back, but I'm gonna do my best to encourage turning and then staying put.

Rainy Day

Equals cabin-fevered kids, temper tantrums and headaches. Fortunately, it also means that most people took a nap for a good hour or so. Then Kevin took them both out with him in the car to, wait for it, Ikea. He's either very, very brave or completely insane(although he is just going to the returns desk to take back some lightbulbs we bought last weekend that were the wrong wattage).

While everyone was napping, I got in a good hours' worth of spinning practise. I'm getting better, still a bit thick and thin and over spun in some spots, but getting much better with both. I've got the bobbin about as full as I dare fill it, otherwise it's libel to start spilling off the smaller end near the orifice. Pre-drafting really does help, as does splitting the fibre into 4 lengthwise before drafting. Now if I can get the wheel to stop trying to spin counter-clockwise on me, I'll be really happy.

Finally Dry

The merino/ bamboo that I spun, plied and finished the other day was finally dry this morning. I took pics with and without the flash. Both are a little blurry, but they look pretty good.

More Spinning

I just finished plying on my wheel for the first time today, and it looks pretty good. I do think that the Jumbo Flyer will probably be my next purchase so that I can ply these "art yarns" without them getting stuck in the orifice.

Sick Kiddos and Spinning Yarn

That's what my day has consisted of. Aidan is still coughing, has a bit of a runny nose and is kinda cranky. Caleigh ended last evening asking to go inside and go to bed around 7:30, which is really odd for her, and then woke up around 11 with a fever of 103. We decided to keep her out of school today, and it was a good call, because this afternoon, her fever spiked to 104 after pretty much being gone all morning.

As for the spinning, I finally got around to trying out the Merino/Bamboo that an online friend sent to me to try out for her before she stocks it to her online shop. It's gorgeous, easy to draft and spin(even for my novice hands) and produces a really beautiful yarn with some wonderful colour variations. Will be letting the 2 bobbins I spun(thick and thin still with quite a bit of over and under twist-I've really gotta get a handle on that part) rest overnight and then try my hand at plying them tomorrow and see what I get.

I Did It! I Finally Did It!!

I finally had that aha! moment with my spinning wheel and some good quality undyed BFL this morning!! It's far from perfect, lots of over- and under-twisted places, but it's major progress, and I'm so thrilled that I finally figured it out. I just need to tweak things a bit to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing with which hand and when, but it's working!
